Sylvie Bégin-Tonneau
Moyens (Pre-K) Assistant

What is your academic and professional background? I have my Bac D, a nursing dimploma, and a Masters of PubliJ’ai mon Bac D, un diplôme d'état d'infirmière et un Masters in Environment, Health, and Safety.
Why did you choose the profession you have today? I completed my studies in France and unfortunately my credentials are not recognized in the United States. My dream since I was young was to be a pediatric nurse, so I chose to be a preschool assistant, which, in my opinion, a profession that most closely matches this. I really love taking care of small children.

What was your favorite subject when you were a student?  I really loved science in general.

Where did you grown up?  I grew up in the French countryside outside of Paris. 

What is your motto?Live in the moment and always be positive
What is your favorite place? My home!
What is your greatest dream? 😊 When I return to France, I would love to open an inn or bed and breakfast and be always surrounded by my Lorsque je rentrerai en France, j’adorerais ouvrir un gite ou une maison d'hôte et être entourée des miens.

Claire Dréan
Kindergarten Assistant

What is your academic and professional background? At first I followed a commerical training that allowed me to work as an advisor in a bank for 23 years. Then I chose a new path and followed a training in graphology and graphotherapy (handwriting re-education), a profession that I held for three years before following my husband to the US.  

Why did you choose the profession you have today?  Working as an assistant at FISW allows me to continue working with children. 

What was your favorite subject when you were a student? I didn't have a favorite subject in high school, but if someone had proposed "Cooking," as exists today in the US, I would have loved it!
Where did you grow up? I grew up in the countryside in central France. 

 What are your favorite pastimes? I love cooking and writing. I am a big foodie and I have so many favorite dishes including tomates farcies, blanquette de veau, millefeuille, kouign aman….

My favorite book is "Nord et Sud" by Elisabeth Gaskell.
What is your favorite place?  My favorite place would be a calm spot with a beautiful view and a good book.

Fifth Grade French Teacher

What is your academic and professional background? After earning my undergradauate degree in science, I went to l’Université des sciences de Montpellier, in the South of France, to earn a DEUG in biology and a license in basic applied sciences. I then earned my Masters in teaching. After earning my Masters and completed my teaching certificate, I taught for several years in Montpellier and the surrounding area in classes from first through fifth grades, as well as specialized classes for sixth through ninth grade students with behavioral problems and at risk of dropping out. I then left abroad, where I spent the last three years. I was Assistant Director and Kindergarten/First Grade/Second Grade teacher at the French Internaional School of Dhaka in Bangladesh.

Why did you choose the profession you have today? This profession chose me. I always had a passion for teaching young students, and I always made my academic choices with this profession in mind. Since I was myself a preschool student, I said to my teacher: "Later, I will be in your position!"

What was your favorite subject when you were a student?  Math!
Where did you grow up? I was born in a suburb of Paris. I stayed there for 10 years, before moving to the South of France near Montpellier (on the Mediterranean coast!)

What are your favorite pastimes? I am passionate about travel, I love to discover new places and new cultures. My experience in Bangladesh allowed me to visit a large part of the Middle East and Asia! I also love all forms of art and hiking.

What is your favorite dessert? I love molten chocolate cake!!

What is your favorite place? Airports!
