Discovering currency

with the penguins (third grade)

The question: What currency do you know? 95% answered : DOLLAR, CANADIAN DOLLAR, and EURO.

Before diving into our math unit about the Euro, the penguins class went to work learning about the world and its different currencies. Each student received bills from different countries. They had to analyze them by studying the size, colors, writing and symbols, and the people and monuments, in order to deduce to which country this currency belonged and to place it on the world map.

They had to be able to understand the concept of monetary value and quickly understood that a 100 taka bill was worth less than a 1 Euro coin!

No matter where they travel, they are now ready to count their money!

Now your turn! To what country do these bills belong?
