Welcome to the French Immersion School of Washington
Founded in 1999, FISW offers an excellent bilingual education for children in preschool through grade 5. Students study all the major subjects – reading, writing, math, history, science, grammar – in both English and French, with the majority of their class time spent in French. The comprehensive and challenging curriculum at FISW prepares students to be critical thinkers, curious about their world and excited about learning.
Over 20 nationalities are represented at FISW. Students learn about other cultures and graduate with a global world view, respecting differences of all kinds in our community and around the world. We invite you to visit and learn more.
FISW is well-located for easy commuting access just off Exit 13 on I-90.
Accreditation
FISW is fully accredited by the French Ministry of Education, the Northwest Association of Independent Schools and by Washington State.
Facilities
FISW is housed in a 20,000 square foot building with an extensive playground. The school offers a dozen classrooms on two floors, each with large windows for a pleasant environment. The library holds over 20,000 items in both French and English that are available for both parents and students to borrow for use at home.
Significant renovation in 2002 expanded the library and added a computer lab, small gym and additional classrooms. The gym features a climbing area on two walls, as well as plenty of equipment. Each class has PE (physical education) on site 3-5 times per week. The facility also works well as a rainy-day alternative for recess.
The outdoor play area is securely fenced and shaded by mature trees. Smaller children have a separate, large play area, and recess times are split by age groups. The older children enjoy a large climbing and play structure appropriate for their size.
