The school day at FISW is structured to fit the needs of each age group of children. All recess breaks are separated by age groups so that children of similar ages are playing together.

Preschool

The preschool day starts at 8:45am, with drop-off starting at 8:30am. Pickup is either at noon or 3:05pm.
The preschool program is available:

• 3-mornings (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) - petits only
• 5 mornings - petits or moyens
• 5 full days – petits or moyens

Children in the preschool program have a morning snack and recess break with their own age groups. Snacks are provided by the school, but children who stay for lunch bring their own food in an insulated bag. After lunch, there is an afternoon nap or quiet session, and afternoon an recess break. A sample daily schedule follows:

Sample Daily Schedule for Preschool

• 8:45-9:00 Arrival -- Free choice of activities (blocks, housekeeping, puzzles, drawing, play dough, construction, etc)
• 9:00-9:15 Group Time -- Daily activities (calendar, attendance, weather, responsibilities). Presentation and discussion about project(s).
• 9:15-10:15 -- Learning Centers in small groups (reading, math, manipulatives, sensory activities)
• 10:15-10:45 -- Snack
• 10:45-11:15 -- Outdoor Recess
• 11:15-12:00 -- Physical Education or Learning Centers (science, library, pre-writing activities, art, etc)
• 12:00-12:45 -- Lunch
• 12:45-1:30 -- Quiet Time (resting, books, puzzles)
• 1:30-2:30 -- Cooperative Learning, Art, Physical Education
• 2:30-2:45 -- Recess
• 2:45-3:05 -- Language Development (stories, puppets)

Note:  Activities are also conducted in English during 25% of the total instructional time.  Schedule is flexible to allow for special events.

Kindergarten

Children start their day at 8:30am, with drop-off starting at 8:15am. Pickup is at 3:15pm. Kindergarten at FISW is a full-day program. It’s a year of transition from the preschool to the primary program.

Kindergarten children have a morning snack and recess break with their own age groups. There is also a lunch break with recess and an afternoon recess break. Snacks are provided by the school, but children bring their own lunch in an insulated bag.

Primary Grades

For children in grades 1-5, the program starts at 8:30am and ends at 3:15pm, with drop-off starting at 8:15am.
Children have morning recess, lunch and recess, and afternoon recess in addition to their school time. Children bring their own lunch, and snacks as desired, in an insulated bag.
