Welcome • Bienvenue
The French Immersion School of Washington is a non-profit, bilingual day school for all children aged 2 1/2 to 11 years old. The school adheres to the curriculum of the world-renowned French Ministry of Education while exceeding American scholastic standards.
The FISW mission is to provide an excellent bilingual education in a welcoming environment that encourages critical thinking and curiosity.
Why Bilingual?
Two languages are better than one!
As our world becomes fully interconnected, succeeding in the 21st century will require new ways of thinking, strong language skills and an open mind. Being bilingual has concrete advantages, and at FISW, we have an international parent body with families from around the world. Graduates are fluent in French, English and their native language.
Why a bilingual preschool?
Exposure to a second language should begin as early as possible, as the human brain is wired to learn language during early childhood. Immersion duplicates the conditions in which we all learn our first language—extended contact with a community of fluent speakers—and is by far the most effective method of language teaching.
